FAAIE Bayanihan Rondalla

  • Lunar New Years – Shadle Library 1/25/2025

We love sharing the Filipino culture with the people of Spokane. This year, the Shadle Public Library chose the Filipino-American Association of the Inland Empire to showcase the culture of the Philippines. The P/A system had a lot of feedback…our apologies.

  • FAAIE Bayanihan Rondalla Christmas Party 2024

No country on earth celebrates Christmas like the Philippines! Here are the highlights of their performance.

  • Unity in the Community – Bayanihan Rondalla

On 8/17/2024, the Bayanihan Rondalla played the main stage at Unity in the Community, Riverfront Park, Spokane, WA.

The highlight of the performance was playing Tinikling, accompanied by the Silangan Dancers demonstrating the national dance of the Philippines.

    Please enjoy the performance.

  • FAAIE Bayanihan Rondalla

From L to R: Daryl McArthur, Marietta Basnillo, Jennifer Migala, Jackson Hulog, Avelina Hulog, Leisl Migala, Debbie Cruz-Santos and Catherine Kamp

Three months after receiving our first shipment of rondalla instruments, and with the assistance of the Rondalla Spokane Foundation, the FAAIE Bayanihan Performance has proudly produced their first performance.

During the FAAIE Christmas Party, the full rondalla performed “Silent Night” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. The youth members also performed a stunning version of Bahay Kubo, and the entire crowd sang along.

The Rondalla Spokane Foundation salutes everyone whose hard work contributed to this performance.

    Mabuhay!

    Members Avelina and Jackson Hulog

  • FAAIE Rondalla Project

“We would love to start a rondalla (a Filipino folk music group). We just don’t have any traditional instruments…”

    RSF heard the call!

Within two months, the Rondalla Spokane Foundation had acquired an agent in the Philippines, purchased twelve instruments, and had them transported to the U.S.A.

After property tagging, these instruments (8 bandurria, 3 octavina and a laud) will be loaned to active members of the FAAIE Rondalla. There is no cost for the loan, just an expectation the recipient will attend practices and perform with the FAAIE Rondalla.

RSF also can provide assistance to anyone wishing to procure their own instruments. We want to share our research with everyone!

    Update

The FAAIE Bayanihan Rondalla has 15 active members. They have performed their first performance after only two months learning their instruments!

The popularity of this project has been surprising. RSF has already added 7 additional instruments bringing the inventory to 19.

One member has utilized the RSF purchasing pipeline to procure a personal bandurria.
